Splitting full length DJ mixes in Sony Sound Forge

Splitting tracks in Sound Forge is the best way to split a DJ mix into separate tracks so you don't have to skip through the whole CD to find a track. The upside if you’re a DJ is the people who download your DJ mixes always prefer a track marked CD.

Here's how to do it the easy way.

1. Click at the start of your mix (00:00:00.000)

2. Click the Special tab at the top

3. Click Insert Marker (a line and a tag will appear)

4. Click at the end of your mix (e.g. 01:20:00.000 for an 80 minute mix)

5. Click the Special tab

6. Click Insert Marker

7. Scroll through your mix and find where the track changes

8. Press the “M” key to insert track marks throughout the whole mix

9. When the track marks are in place click the Special Tab

10. Now click on Regions List from the dropdown menu

11. Click on Markers to Regions

You will now get a box saying “All of the Markers in the sound file will be converted to Regions. Are you sure you want to continue?”

12. Click yes and the Markers and Regions will be named as each track length

13. Click on Tools in the top bar and click Extract Regions from the drop down menu

An Extract Regions box will appear with all 10 Regions named.

14. Select a Destination Folder (e.g. c:\desktop\mixname) and click Extract

The program will now 'Extract' each Region and save it to the Destination Folder of your choice.

15. Now you can close Sound Forge and open the folder you saved your mix to and there should be a number of Wav files saved.

Burn using Nero or any CD Burning Software of your choice and set the pre gap to 0 seconds.
